PROVENCE ON THE ROAD: Rousillon & Gorde

The roadtrip in Provence that we made this summer was a truly incredible tour that left us speechless in front of such an amount of beauty.

Never we could imagine so many different places in only one region of France, but yes, it was huge and never ending surprise of the nature. In the first part of the tour, that we’ve talked about here, we showed to you lavender fields, the beautiful tiny villages as Gourdon, the incredibly beaitiful colors of Gorge du Verdon and some more.

Now it’s time of the second part! We gonna talk of the unbelievable places like Rousillion which will makes you feel as on Mars, Gorde, Avignon and much more!

Click on the read more and enjoy the hot sun of Provence with us!

Roussillon

A place you will love for sure is Roussillon, a small village in the Ochre Area. These ochre rocks used to be mined to get pigments for the textile industries; nowadays this activity is forbidden to protect these amazing red hills but you can visit a long path across the hills after which your shoes will be totally red because of the dust you will walk into, just bring some shoes you can wash with you and get ready to feel walking on Mars!

Not only the rocks around are in this beautiful red color, but also the whole city is made using this sand. I higly recommend you to have a walk in the city and stop in a little cofe to enjoy your cup.

There are also a lot of little shops selling natural color pigments for the watercolor or any other, in a crazy amount of different shade, have a look expecially of the selection of sand and ochre colors.

Gorde

In this area we enjoyed other little villages before stopping for a few days in the city of Avignon: Gordes and Isle sur la Sorgue. The first one is located on a giant calcareus rock which dominates the valley.

The village is pretty small as much every in that area, but it’s nice to get lost in its tiny streets, buy some souvenirs and stop for a coffee in a little cafe.

We enjoyed the view having a brunch (one of the best brunch ever) with fois gras and champagne at the hotel La Bastide de Gordes.

This hotel is truly a magic place, with so fashinating view, gorgeous and luxury interiors and the best food!

See you soon for another part of Provence on the road!
